the movement, migration, or scattering of a people away from an established or ancestral homeland

When I began traveling in 2015, I could not have expected the unfolding of people, places and experiences that took me from escaping my problems to a life of travel with deliberate intention.

The biggest lessons have come from the people I’ve been lucky enough to meet along the way; other nomads, a stranger sharing a restaurant table, a 7-11 worker, the fellow train passenger who shares his bottle of wine. All of them, like me, have been wanderers, each feeling their way through an uncharted, ever-giving diaspora. To live in the diaspora means treading a delicate, seemingly impossible line between the thrill of perpetual wandering and a yearning for being settled. Knowing that I’m not alone in this dilemma has been the most valuable lesson of all.

None of us are separate from each other. The Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius wrote about the virtue of entering the minds of others and letting other enter ours. And that’s the goal for this site, to share freely what makes us human, and by doing that find strength to adventure ever further into this beautiful diaspora.

Joyful journey!
