A hostel with a pool? This is really living.
Onederz Siem Reap opened in 2016 and is found next to Angkor Night Market. Siem Reap is a small town catering almost exclusively to tourists coming to visit nearby Angkor Wat.
Design and Environment
I was impressed by the hostel’s “superb” rating and glowing reviews on Booking.com, as well the clean, modern look in the photos. I wasn’t disappointed. Some serious thinking has gone into the building’s construction and interior design. The ground floor reception and lounge is a large open-plan space surrounded by big glass windows that let in plenty of natural light. A mixture of wooden surfaces, metal and greenery create a light, airy and relaxing environment.
My 8 bed dorm was clean and bright with sturdy, white, metal bunks. Each bed came with a personal shelf, reading light and charging points. No privacy curtains, but I didn’t feel they were necessary here as there was plenty of space between the bunks. There were good-sized lockers for each guest.
Each floor had a large shower room with plenty of cubicles so I never had to wait. Constant hot water and good water pressure were just what I needed after a day of roaming around Siem Reap or the temples of Angkor Wat.
What I liked best
The most outstanding feature of this hostel had to be the rooftop pool! You won’t have much room for serious swimming but it’s ideal for cooling down or showing off your swim wear.
Onederz also served up some tasty breakfast and lunch options – all just a couple of dollars each. I stayed almost a week and woke up every morning looking forward to a long lazy breakfast, especially the pancakes and coffee.
The staff here were among some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met, one of reasons I stayed so long. Like other hostels I stayed at in Cambodia, I felt an all-round effort to provide a good experience and encourage guests to return. I certainly will.
What could be improved?
I’ve really struggled to find any faults with this hostel. It’s pretty much a perfect place to stay that provides all the essentials with some unexpected, bonus luxuries.
