A great choice for exploring a different side of Bangkok.
Where is it?
Better Bed Hostel is around 25 minutes from central Bangkok by Skytrain and a 5 minute walk from Ekkamai station. The Ekkamai area is home to a high concentration of Japanese restaurants and the Gateway Ekkamai shopping mall which caters to a “Japanese inspired lifestyle”. The hostel is found off the main road in a quiet side street.
Design and Environment
I’d been staying previously at J2N Hostel about 10 minutes walk away and liked the area so decided to hang around a while longer. Better Bed had good reviews on Booking.com and I thought the name was really cool. They have a neat logo too! Walking through the entrance was a small eating area – where the free breakfast is served and a reception desk at the back. The hostel had only been open a few months so felt clean and fresh. First impressions were of an industrial, minimal design concept.
My mixed dormitory was large, bright and spotlessly clean. The bunks were excellent with a comfortable mattress, quality duvet, privacy curtain and hooks. A powerful aircon kept the room nicely chilled and the large luggage lockers were electronically opened by the same keycard for the dorm room.
What I liked best
The overall standard of hygiene, dorm quality and security at Better Bed was outstanding. With the free breakfast it was overall very good value. As a new hostel, the owner was very keen to hear my thoughts on how they were doing and what my thoughts for improvement were.
What could be improved?
There wasn’t any hot water in the showers at the time I was there during the summer of 2016. I don’t know if that has since changed, if you have information on that please let me know.
