Extra friendly, cozy and well located Bangkok hostel.
Just around the corner from the popular Bed Station in the Ratchathewi area, Monomer Hostel is a cozy, well run place that I keep coming back to.
It’s a pretty small hostel, but there’s no feeling of being cramped. The last few times I’ve stayed in the 6 bed dorm where the beds are laid out in a single row and facing a wall. This way there’s only other beds above or below you and not to the side, which adds more privacy. The beds also have a curtain, reading light and charging socket.
Like most hostels in Bangkok the kitchen isn’t equipped for serious cooking, with just a microwave and refrigerator. The ease and low cost of eating out means you wouldn’t really want to bother anyways with cooking your own meals.
The wooden kitchen table and white chairs make a nice place to eat, work or socialize. There’s not really a lounge, just a single sofa, however, the general light and easy atmosphere leaves you without feeling anything is lacking.
Each floor of the hostel has at least two shower rooms and plenty of toilets. The mix of wood, metal and concrete, with potted plants here and there creates a natural, relaxed environment. The light coming in through the windows by the sinks gives you a nice burst of energy first thing in the moring as you brush your teeth.
The friendly staff is a big part of why I like this hostel. I’ve always had fun chatting with the guys on reception who make me feel like a part of the family.
Monomer run their own coffee shop next door where hostel guests get a discount. Nearby are a 7-11, foot massage shops and Ratchathewi BTS station with connections downtown or to the airport. MBK shopping center and Pantip Plazza electronics mall are both in walking distance.
