A popular hostel in Bangkok’s Ratchathewi area that’s got all the right ingredients.
If it’s not sold out, the Bed Station is a great hostel for meeting other travelers and enjoying a few home comforts. You can’t miss the huge sign as you turn into a side street off the busy main road and you’re likely to see one or two guests sitting outside enjoying the sunshine.
Design and Environment
The design throughout the hostel was minimalist industrial, with brushed concrete, metal and wood surfaces. This created a natural and relaxed environment. The ground floor, featured a bar and spacious eating/working area. The long wooden table provided a nice communal place for breakfast or chatting.
The dorms were comfortable, with sturdy metal bunks that didn’t rock or squeak. Each bed had a privacy curtain, reading light, shelf and hook. The lockers were large enough for most sizes of luggage.
Happily there was never any need to wait for a shower as the washrooms had plenty of cubicles. The water heater for each shower had adjustable temperature though could have been hotter. Shower gel and shampoo were provided, as well as hair dryer and ample supply of cotton buds!
Free breakfast of toast, cereal, filter coffee and tea was available from 6.30am until 10. The first floor, on the way up to the rooms, featured a lounge with TV, computers, bean bags and library.
What I liked best
I really enjoyed the sociable atmosphere here. The guests were mostly younger travelers passing through Bangkok on their way to other destinations in Thailand or in South East Asia.
It was also a great location with lots of street food and restaurants nearby. Ratchathewi BTS station was 2 minutes walk, ideal for getting into town or to the airport.
